Shower Chair Accessories

You’ve purchased a shower bench or chair and have been enjoying increased comfort and safety in the bathroom. What’s next? What can you do to add even more enjoyment to your bath time ritual?

A handheld shower massager allows you to control where the water sprays. Easily installed, most shower massagers come with multiple settings to personalize your shower experience.

A shower spray clip is used to attach the shower massager to the shower chair. By using the clip, you can be assured that your sprayer is within arms reach and not laying on the bottom of the tub.

Wire baskets are available to attach to the side of your shower bench. These baskets can hold many items, such as: shampoo, soap, conditioner, shaving foam, and a razor, at seat level. The wire design provides adequate drainage to eliminate melted soap and rusty razor blades.

Mesh shower pouches also provide storage for bath necessities. These pouches are attached to the legs of the shower seat and have zipper pockets to organize your toiletries.

Add any of these great accessories to crank your bath experience up a notch!

Traveling With a Shower Chair

Recently, a customer was in touch with us to purchase new tips for her shower chair legs. Despite making a bag for her chair and bungee strapping it to her luggage, her leg tips were lost. We couldn’t decide if security had removed them and forgotten to replace them, or exactly what had happened, but she needed them.

It amazed me how expensive the tips were. We ended up undercharging her because we thought the price was for four and not one, but we were okay with that because we really wanted her to be able to use her existing chair and not have to replace hers. Until then I had not given any thought to the logistics of getting a shower chair to a destination, but here are some ideas to make traveling easier:

1. Remove your leg tips and place them in your carry-on bag or in your checked luggage.

2. Consider purchasing a smaller folding shower stool that will fit inside your suitcase.

3. Check with your airline for regulations regarding strapping your shower chair to your suitcase before you travel, so you are not surprised at the airport.

4. Consider leaving a spare shower chair at the home of the friend or family member you are visiting—that way you will have no worries about your shower chair being lost with your luggage.

Just a few simple steps will insure that you and your shower chair will arrive safely at your destination.

Quest for Independence

The quest for independence is a driving force. I’m not really talking about our forefathers and their desire to create a country where all were created equal, but the compulsion most of us feel to be self-sufficient.

My mom has always told me that I never wanted to snuggle into her as a baby, but wanted to face out and see what was happening around me. As we grow up, we want to choose our own clothes, go places without our parents, drive a car, and vote. All of these privileges are earned over time and eventually, we are considered adults. We leave the nest to pursue life on our own. The independence that you’ve earned over your lifetime is so hard to lose, because it took you so long to earn it. No one wants his or her children or grandchildren running their life.

One way to keep your independence is to make your home as safe as possible. The bathroom is an area that needs very special attention. There are shower stools for additional support in the shower. There are bath lifts to raise and lower you into the tub. Grab bars, tub rails, and shower mats are essential for safe entry and exit from the bath tub. Transfer chairs ease the transition from being seated in a wheelchair to being seated in the bath tub.

Make today your 4th of July by making your bathroom safer and you can declare your independence!
