The Convenience of a Shower Seat.

The modern day shower is a far cry from the earliest models. Those first used showers were neither indoor structures nor man-made, but were common natural formations: waterfalls. The advanced water and sewage systems developed by the Greeks and Romans brought showers indoors for the first time.

Shower usage, especially in the U.S., in the latter half of the 20th century has skyrocketed. The idea of a permanent shower seat has also become very popular. This is especially true when all the occupants of the home prefer to sit while enjoying a shower.

Safety Proofing the Bathroom

Now that my grandma is in her nineties, we have started to take measures to make her home safer and more accessible. She is a very independent person and has always been against the ideas of nursing homes and caregivers.  One of the main danger zones for people of all ages, but especially the elderly, is the bathroom.

With slick tile floors and pointed edges everywhere, the bathroom is riddled with hazards. Last weekend, my sister and I made the room a little safer by adding a shower bench and installing a couple of shower grab bars. These small accessories make bathing exponentially safer, and my grandma has already expressed her gratitude and noted how much easier bathing is.
