I know that it’s only April, but I’ve been thinking about the gifts I always give to my aunts and uncles for Christmas, and I think that they might get teak shower stools this year. As they are almost all over fifty, I don’t feel that it’s too early to start some good bath safety habits.
Three of my four uncles have worked construction for many years. Decades of carrying boards and shingles and pounding nails have definitely taken its toll on their backs. Sitting to shower will help take the load off and ease their aching backs. I think they will appreciate the construction and styling of the teak shower stool as well. It is well-built and attractive without looking girly.
My aunts will like the idea of being able to sit to shower as well. Being able to sit while shaving your legs makes the process much easier. And while we are on the subject of legs, it’s nice that the legs of the teak shower stool adjust so that everyone in their household will comfortably be able to enjoy a safer shower.
Everyone knows that your bathroom is the most dangerous room in your home. Yearly, the majority of household accidents occur in this room. What can we do to make the bathroom safer?
I believe that there are three essentials for a safer bathroom—a shower bench or shower chair, a shower mat, and a grab bar. Here are some basics to know about each of these safety tools.
Shower benches (sometimes also referred to as shower stools, shower chairs, or shower seats) offer a safe place to sit and bathe. Four legs with rubber-tipped, anti-slip feet keep you and the shower bench safe and sound.
A shower mat or bath mat is placed on the floor outside the tub or shower to make stepping in and out of the shower easier and safer. These shower mats are available in wooden styles or in more traditional rug-type styles.
Grab bars provide a safe grip to aid in your bathroom routine. Suction cup grab bars are mounted without tools, but remain incredibly strong. Grab bars can be mounted anywhere that you can use a helping hand.
Don’t hesitate to pickup all three essentials for a safer bathroom today.
I’ve been searching for a gift idea to finish up my Christmas shopping for my mother-in-law. I’ve been looking for something useful, but kind of luxorious, and have decided to buy her a Teak Adjustable Height Bath Stool.
If you’ve read any of my previous blogs, you already know how much I love teak–for it’s warmth and luxury feeling. This Teak Adjustable Height Bath Stool is fantastic for a small shower stall and is lightweight. The adjustable legs will make it a perfect size for my mother-in-law who is short in stature.
This bath stool is perfect for shaving one’s legs or for putting on pantyhose, if you decide to simply use it in the bathroom as a dressing stool. The Teak Adjustable Height Bath Stool won’t take up much space in your bathroom or bedroom and it is very strong and sturdy. You will appreciate its appearance and design in or out of your shower.
The Teak Adjustable Height Bath Stool is a great gift for anyone on your Christmas list.
Real wood in the bathroom makes me immediately think of luxury and a spa experience. Maybe that is why I like the teak shower seats so much.
Teak is a warm wood that is naturally mildew resistant. This quality makes teak a great material for your shower bench or shower stool. Since we’ve discussed many times the merits of using a shower stool or shower bench, we are just going to focus on the beauty of teak.
Teak shower benches come in many styles, but two of my favorites are the triangular teak shower stool and the teak shower bench. The seat of the triangular teak shower stool is composed of a very thick piece of teak and the points of the triangle are rounded for comfort as well as appearance. The seat of this stool looks like it belongs in your living room, not in your shower.
The teak shower bench has a wide seat with teak slats. These slats allow for easy drainage. The teak shower bench has an Asian design which feels like it belongs in your garden. You can’t go wrong with a teak shower bench or stool in your bath.
If you are looking to purchase a shower stool to add safety and comfort to your bathroom, there are a few reasons why a teak shower stool is a great choice.
No man-made material can match the quality of genuine teak for use in the bathroom. Teak is naturally water resistant. This water resistance helps eliminate mildew, making keeping the teak shower stool clean a breeze.
Teak is warm, not only in appearance, but also while in use. Your bare backside will appreciate this when you sit on your teak shower stool for your shower.
The beauty of teak is a major factor for its use in the bathroom. You can get all the safety of a shower stool without having to settle for a white, clinical looking piece of furniture.
A teak shower stool is comparable in price to its more clinical looking cousins. You can get the spa look without a large price tag. A teak shower stool is the ultimate in luxury and safety for your bath.
Often associated with priceless and exotic antiques, teak is considered a symbol of luxury by many. A close-grained wood with a high oil content that provides weather resistance, it also has tannic acid properties that combat fungi and insects and requires little to no maintenance. Teak has been used to construct ships for hundreds of years with great success, proving durable and weathering naturally to an even silver-gray color.
Due to its hardy nature, teak is now used in myriad outdoor products, including lawn furniture. Since its waterproof, teak products have also made their way into the bathroom. A teak shower bench, for example, won’t mold in the shower and is more comfortable than the plastic or metal options.
Teak is a type of hardwood that is most commonly seen in the southern and southeastern regions of Asia. Unlike other woods, teak is fostered best in an environment that experiences monsoons. The three most common varieties are Philippine Teak, Common Teak, and Dahat Teak.
The wood is generally used for a wide variety of outdoor furniture or boat decks. Because of its ability to withstand severe weather, it is not uncommon to see an outdoor teak bench or teak swing. While other woods need to be treated with oils or varnishes to withstand and endure outdoor conditions, teak has extensive natural oils that make it both durable and easy to work with. In recent years, teak’s water resistance has been put to use in a new fashion: the teak shower chair.
When I think of high quality materials for use in the bathroom, I think of marble, granite, and natural wood. The use of wood in the bathroom serves to warm up a room filled with cold, hard surfaces.
Teak is a wonderful wood for use in the bath. Grown predominately on plantations in the Southeast Asia countries of Thailand and Bangladesh, this yellow-brown hardwood is ideal for use in the elements. The natural oils make teak extremely weather and termite resistant. You’ll often find teak used for boat decks, outdoor furniture, and cutting boards. Luxury yacht makers often use teak for their yacht fittings. Recently, shower benches have been added to the items crafted from teak.
Teak shower benches are beautiful, durable, and functional. They offer a wide comfortable seat and sturdy legs. The benefit of the teak shower bench is that when you sit to shower, the seat is not cold like a plastic seat. Teak is also highly mildew resistant and easy to keep clean. Teak also has a very appealing appearance. Its warm tones are a perfect complement for any décor.
Add a little luxury to your bath with teak.
A hardwood in the mint family, teak is one of the best known and most durable types of tropical wood. The wood can most often be found in many different parts of southeast and southern Asia. They are indicative of vegetation that thrives in a monsoon forest. By tree standards, they are very tall. As such, they range from 30 to 40 meters high. Generally speaking, there are three major types of teak: common teak, Dahat teak, and Philippine teak.
Dahat teak, in particular, is very rare. This version is only found in Burma, where it is considered an endangered species. Philippine teak is also confined to the Philippines and is endangered. Therefore, many of the common products, such as a teak shower seat or a teak bench, are made from Tectona grandis (common teak). While you can find this wood distributed throughout the world, it is most widely distributed in India along with Indo-China.
