Everyone has an elderly relative who is slowing down. You have accompanied your aging aunt or uncle from the car to the restaurant or have taken your parents to a doctor’s appointment. You have become aware of a senior citizen’s tendency to shuffle their feet to increase their feeling of security while walking.

These shuffling feet are an example of why certain safety measures must be taken to help make seniors safer.

1. Remove throw rugs to prevent tripping and slipping.

2. Place a bath mat at the entrance of the shower to stabilize entry and exit for the tub or shower.

3. Utilize a shower bench so that seniors can be seated and stable throughout their shower.

4. Install grab bars for a helping hand in and out of the shower.

The senior citizen in your life will appreciate your efforts to make them safer and you will appreciate the peace of mind that making your loved one safer will offer you.
